Two members of the Naylor team travelled down to Gloucester recently to support a volunteering day organised by Kier Transportation to help a local school - Coberley C of E Primary School.
Based in the village of Coberley just south of Cheltenham, the school had been unable to maintain the grounds due to a lack of funding and contacted Kier Transportation, which is working on the National Highways A417 Missing Link project nearby, for help.
Driving down to Gloucestershire equipped with their own strimmer’s and bark chips for the creation of a bug hotel, Georgina Hopkinson, Business Co-ordinator at Naylor, and Joe Allen, Contractor Development Manager, joined a team of 20 volunteers who spent the day strimming the nature garden and grounds, weeding, cutting back trees, demolishing an old shed, removing old wooden play gyms, creating a small bug hotel, refreshing the grounds with bark chip, disposing of litter, and even sanding and varnishing a pagoda and benches.
In a thank you note to Carolyne Ferguson, Keir Transportation Head of Stakeholder, Customer and Communications, the school’s headteacher said they have never had this much support and were all very touched when they realised some people had driven for more than three hours and had stayed in the area the night before to help.
Georgina Hopkinson of Naylor comments: “It was rewarding to be able to make a difference at the school. Supporting communities has always been a huge focus at Naylor and being able to help on collaborative projects with customers enhances our ethos and builds momentum for change. We were delighted to be part of Kier Transportation’s team of volunteers and look forward to continuing supporting such projects. We’ve already offered to return in the future if needed.”
Naylor works in partnership with National Highways, Tier One contractors, and merchants to deliver a wide range of social value schemes across the UK whether that involves supporting local schools, creating recycling projects or getting involved with conservation projects. Naylor is also proud of its own track record in the delivery of social value under the four pillars of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), economic growth, community and environment.
